Happy Thursday!
I was out of the room today to do reading testing. We are trying to get all of our reading assessments done before the winter break. We continue to work on writing complete sentences. Some of us are becoming very good writers. Our snack today was mixed fruit - pineapple, cantaloupe, and honey dew. We finally got to have recess outside today! I apologize to my regular readers! I think the cold weather has frozen my brain and fingers!
I can tell we are getting closer to winter break. The noise level in our room has gone up dramatically! It doesn't help that we haven't had outside recess for almost a week! We have been working with The Snowy Day this week by Ezra Jack Keats. The kids have really picked up on the similarities in books by Keats. They are, also, getting very good at using picture clues to determine feelings of the characters. We continue working on measuring as well as exploring balance scales to weigh things. The kids are very interested. We have done some work this week with learning about snow and blizzards. Blizzards has really gotten their attention. I told them that I hope we don't have one! Thank you for sending warm clothes with your chiildren every day. We only go outside if the temperature and wind chill is above zero. We hope for that soon! What a drizzly day! This means inside recess!
We started our measurement unit today by measuring our shoes! We found out that we have 10 freinds whose shoes are 10 cubes long! We read another story today by Ezra Jack Keats and has Peter and Willie as characters. We are working on a classbook about ourselves. I am excited to see the finished book soon! Hoping for sunshine tomorrow! I apologize for the late post. After school meetings have interrupted my getting this done earlier.
I was so good to see all of my smiling faces yesterday. We got right back into the school routine. We are working on story elements (characters, setting) using the book Whistle for Willie this week. We finished our unit on patterns today. We will start our unit on measurement and numbers tomorrow. Our snack today was Ruby Red Grapefruit. When you make it fun, grapefruit smiles, almost everyone is willing to try it! |
